The Process

Many different outlets offer a wheel refurbishment service. Many of these will simply respray the face of the wheel with materials designed for painting car body panels.

We approach the process differently; first we strip your wheels back to the original casting and repair any underlying damage. Then we rebuild the finish using the same specialist techniques and materials as the leading wheel manufacturers. At each stage the finish is baked on at high temperature to ensure a long lasting result.

Here in the South West, until recently if you wanted this quality of wheel refurbishment, you would have to package your wheels in boxes and send them away for a week or so. Now you can enjoy the convenience of dropping your car (or just the wheels) with us in Exeter, and seeing them transformed in a couple of days.

Here’s what we do

  • Remove tyre, weights and centre caps
  • Strip old layers of paint & lacquer; a final, gentle blast cleaning process removes corrosion and prepares the surface for refinishing
  • Repair any underlying damage, skimming the surface to the correct profile, and/or building up where necessary
  • Apply a tough powder coat primer
  • Apply a colour coat of your choice
  • Apply a robust, high temperature lacquer designed specifically for alloy wheels
  • Refit tyres and rebalance on our computerised balancer
FAQ
How much does it cost?

As a guide, our retail price for full factory refurbishment of a wheel up to 18″ diameter, with a standard paint & lacquer finish is £72 including VAT.

  • Larger wheels, special finishes, split rims, and polished faces will cost more.
  • We also charge a little more if you are bringing us the car rather than just wheels and tyres.
  • Centre caps can also be painted for an additional charge, but it is often cheaper to buy new ones.
Can you straighten buckled wheels?

If you have a wheel which is ‘out of round’, usually caused by pothole damage, then we can normally restore it. If the wheel is twisted, then we can’t. If in doubt, please drop in and we’ll take a look at it and advise you.

Can you deal with cracked wheels?

Small cracks on the rear edge of a rim can usually be welded successfully. We don’t do welding on site, but can arrange for it to be done, or if you prefer, we can tell you where we take them so you can cut out the middle man!

Paint & lacquer is peeling off my wheels. What can help?

We deal with this problem all the time. Its usually caused through a previous poor quality refurbishment job, or sometimes older wheels particularly Japanese ones for some reason have a very thin coating on them which doesn’t last. Our process will remove all previous finishes and rebuild the finish to the current standards of leading wheel manufacturers.

Lacquer has a milky appearance & starting to lift?

This often happens on wheels with a polished finish, i.e. where lacquer has been applied over bare polished metal. We can have the original finish restored if you wish, but you need to be aware that the same problem will recur, as it is inherent with this type of finish.

The best solution is to have the wheels stripped and refinished in our normal way which will be much more durable.

We also have some special finishes which can give your wheels a distinctive appearance but avoid the adhesion and corrosion problems that occur with lacquer over a polished finish.

Before you email

We get lots of emails with “Hi mate how much for 4 wheels” which is not really that informative.

If you would like to send an image please send it to our email address and then phone us and we will be able to give you a rough estimate over the phone.

Estimates over the phone are just that AN ESTIMATE until we actually see the wheels at which point a quote can be given
